Dress Code Violation of the Day: Brigham Young University student Brittany Molina thought she was getting a love note when a fellow student handed her a folded piece of paper while she was standing around the school’s Provo campus on Valentine’s Day.
But when she opened it up, she discovered not an admission of attraction, but instead a strongly worded criticism of her attire.
“You may want to consider that what you’re wearing has a negative effect on men (and women) around you,” read the letter. “Many people come to this university because they feel safe, morally as well as physically, here. They expect others to abide by the Honor Code that we all agreed on. Please consider your commitment to the Honor Code (which you agreed to) when dressing each day. Thank you.”
Molina posted the piece of paper on Twitter along with a photo of what she was wearing when she received it. ”Gosh dang it,” she tweeted, “I’ll remember to dress in jeans, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes tomorrow. That way I don’t make people feel uncomfortable.”
According to Molina, the young man who handed her the note “was gone within 5 seconds.” BYU has not commented on this incident.

WOW

…No, seriously: What, exactly, is wrong with her outfit?
She’s wearing a long-sleeved cardigan over a sleeveless dress with black tights beneath, and nearly knee-high boots. The hem of the dress reaches just past her mid-thigh. Little to absolutely no cleavage is visible, from what I can tell of this picture.
SO WHAT, THEN, IS SO MORALLY ABHORRENT ABOUT THIS YOUNG WOMAN’S ATTIRE, ANONYMOUS SLUT-SHAMING BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENT?
Few things faze me anymore, not to mention my natural state of being perpetually baffled by most… Well, everything, that exists in our convoluted society. But this? I can’t seem to get my jaw to close and my brow to unfurrow.
I mean, what the holy fuck?

Jesus, I’m pretty sure the average Mennonite would say that outfit was a bit too covering.

Simple explanation: She encountered a time traveling Victorian-era asshole.

Okay, I’m Mormon and I’ve attended BYU in the past. I have a lot of respect for the honor code and the modesty standards of the University, and I can tell you personally that this girl’s outfit is in no way a violation of it
It just makes me angry that guys like this are there 1) making girls self conscious about stupid things, and 2) making the rest of us look bad. I almost feel the need to apologize to everyone for this. I swear, we’re not all like this!
Happily, from what I’ve heard, this letter has caused a lot of disbelief and outrage from the greater part of the student body at the school, so hopefully the mystery honor code enforcer learned a lesson or two.
To him I say:

I really kind of hope the rest of the BYU student body eventually figures out who this guy is, because I’d pay a lot of money to see some of the boys there who /aren’t/ giant douchebags have a go at him.
