Dress Code Violation of the Day: Brigham Young University student Brittany Molina thought she was getting a love note when a fellow student handed her a folded piece of paper while she was standing around the school’s Provo campus on Valentine’s Day.

But when she opened it up, she discovered not an admission of attraction, but instead a strongly worded criticism of her attire.

“You may want to consider that what you’re wearing has a negative effect on men (and women) around you,” read the letter. “Many people come to this university because they feel safe, morally as well as physically, here. They expect others to abide by the Honor Code that we all agreed on. Please consider your commitment to the Honor Code (which you agreed to) when dressing each day. Thank you.”

Molina posted the piece of paper on Twitter along with a photo of what she was wearing when she received it. ”Gosh dang it,” she tweeted, “I’ll remember to dress in jeans, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes tomorrow. That way I don’t make people feel uncomfortable.”

According to Molina, the young man who handed her the note “was gone within 5 seconds.” BYU has not commented on this incident.

This is because that is a MORMON school. She is not dressed modestly. Her neck line is too low for Mormon standards. (I’m not kidding, she should have a shirt on under that dress to cover her chest more. As in Mormon woman should be dressed completely to the neck.) As too her hem line is ABOVE HER KNEES. Her wearing TIGHTS does not count. Her skirt should fall below her knees. Showing any part of her thigh is considered immodest.

As much as I agree this is utter bullshit, the note the boy gave her, by the laws of the religious school she attended(s), is indeed correct. And he was justified in giving her a polite note and then immediately leaving her presence. Because he felt shameful seeing her chest and knees. (It’s a very sexually repressed religion for hormonal teens to endure.)

However absurd we all think it is. Just like Muslim Women have to walk around under tents, Mormon women must have skirts BELOW THE KNEE and shirts up to their necks.

Period.

Stupid as hell, but that’s the religion these people practice, so she should not have been surprised.

I know i’ve already reblogged but I feel the need to correct the above statement. As I said, I’m Mormon, and it’s definitely not a requirement to wear shirts up to our necks. Just so long as it’s modest and not showing all sorts of cleavage. We believe in modesty, but not to the extreme. At any rate, this girl is certainly not showing too much cleavage for BYU standards. The guy who wrote this note is just a douchebag. 

Maybe you a different branch or something? The couple of Mormon women I do know tend to dress pretty modestly as the above post described. That being said though, I agree the guy was a douche and I think she looks cute as fuck. The main reason I picked that person to quote was because overall, it’s not my religion, so using my views of whats modest/immodest to judge wouldn’t really be fair. Reading back over it, I disagree the guy was justified. Maybe if it was a not from a school official but some random dick on the campus? Pft~ 

Definitely a random dick on campus. I went to BYU for almost three years, my father works there, and I still live nearby with a lot of friends who go there, and I’m quite certain that the honor code was /never/ that stiff. Most of the people I know there are definitely not like that. It’s just the few people like this that get the notice and make the rest of us look bad… Cause seriously, the idea that this guy is helping to set the image we get across to the rest of the world just makes me want to bury my head in the sand out of shame.
